Only a small amount is needed to stimulate the oil glands, and it is impossible to distinguish the adrenal levels of acne patients form those of clear skinned types.

People with chronically oily skin and lingering acne have been found to harbor and especially active enzyme that converts testosterone, one of the androgens, into a more potent form called dihydro-testosterone. This is the factor directly responsible for releasing more oil. It is thought that if the effect dihydro-testosterone on the sebaceous glands could be counteracted then acne could be controlled. The challenge lies in accomplishing this without tampering with the body's normal hormonal makeup. Genes are also believed to play a stage setting role, since acne and its degree of severity often run in families. Heredity can help determine the amount of oil you body produces, the kind of bacteria nesting in your glands, the strength of your follicular walls, and other factor linked to either your resistance or your susceptibility.

Occasionally the onset of acne in adulthood can signal the presence of pituitary, adrenal, or ovarian tumors. The condition will usually be accompanied by other signs of excess androgen or erratic hormone activity: Irregular menstrual periods, the growth of facial hair, and deepening of the voice. Other factors, if not direct causes, may aggravate and already existing case of acne. In cases of anxiety and stress, the body signals the pituitary gland to release more of its hormones to meet the challenge. These, in turn, stimulate the adrenal cortex to pour more androgens into the bloodstream. Since people vary in their tolerance to extra androgens, not everyone under pressure will have an acne flare-up. But stress will put those who are susceptible at higher risk. Stress can also lead to nervous scratching and picking of the face, which can irritate pimples and drive them deeper into the skin. To complicate matters, it has been found that the output of fatty acids is also increased during stress.

PREGNANCY AND MENOPAUSE:

This sloughs away the dead cells and gives the face a glow. Don't use soap, just splash on cold water that will act as an astringent and close the pores.

Use green gram powder or rice flour mixed with curds instead.

After a bath as a base for make-up use some diluted limejuice to dab on before application of foundation or any other make-up.

Although this isn't exactly cheap for a drugstore brand, it performs as well as high end lipsticks. Rich, smooth texture, admirable staying power, but the best quality is the super-saturated pigmentation. There is just so

much color, making a little go a long way. It wears evenly, avoiding the dreaded lip outline, and blotting when applying makes it last even longer. My only complaint is the rounded, paddle shape of the lipstick. Due to the defined shape of my lips, I prefer lipsticks with a sharp point to allow for accuracy. I can work with this one, it's just not as easy to apply in a hurry. I really love the color swatch on the lid, making selecting the shade I'm after much easier than trying to read a label.
This particular shade is a pretty light purplish mauve. The name lilac implies a blue-toned lavender, but while definitely in the cool color family, this leans more toward pink. I have very fair skin and dark hair, so this light of a shade doesn't work well for everyday. But it looks fabulous with a dark plum or classic chestnut eye.

I picked this up at CVS during their clearance sale. I honestly didn't look it up before I bought it, just decided for the price is was worth it to add to my collection. I have swatched it and played with it and was never super impressed, it was a gorgeous color..Just didn't work for me! I had brought some b2mac stuff back today and picked up two lipsticks, one being MACs Syrup. I was looking and it and it reminded me of this, so I went into my collection and pulled it out. Side by side they look identical, and swatched they almost look identical (Revlon's pulls a little more purpleish) I tried them on and Lilac is a little bit brighter then Syrup, but still close enough. So if anyone is looking for a cheaper alternative to MACs Syrup try this out! I definitely have come to love this a little more now!

With such good reviews I didn't hesitate to snag this up at CVS on clearance, but I just can't pull this color off whatsoever. From looking at the pictures it looks more bright pinky/purpley and mine doesnt. My tube and the color pay off is similar to the first three pictures posted, except even more frosty/glitterly and way more of a wierd purpley color, not really muavey at all. It brings back memories of those cheap ugly colors they throw into little girl makeup kits. I think if you are darker, or more medium toned this would likely look good on you. For reference I am somewhere between NC10 and NC15, blonde hair, blue eyes, medium pigmented lips.

I LOVE the high-pigmentation this has. The color remains true throughout the day; it doesn't change like some lipsticks I've used. It goes on smoothly and lasts. It did not clump or form lines. It stayed smooth and creamy for several hours! I use this with Too Faced Lip Primer and the results are beautiful all day long. I did not have to retouch even after 6 hours.I have this in "36" which is a satin finish fuchsia color. This color is EXTREMELY long lasting when used with a primer. I had it on for about five hours before I ate, drank and had a couple of kisses. By hour six and drink two it was finally just a light pink stain on my lips. My only complaint is that this lipstick is kind of drying. I never like to wear lip stick without gloss so this really was not an issue for me. I love how many colors there are to choose from and the packaging is nice and professional looking. I will definitely purchase more colors from this company in the future! Worth the price!!! The color is intense (#44 Satin Brownish Red) and it really does stay on forever, hence its name. I doubt I will have many occasions to wear it but the price is decent for color that lasts through eating and drinking. Just keep your lips conditioned beforehand with Vaseline or some conditioner because this lipstick stains your skin. Lovely color, though.

How can you tell what your undertone color is? Run a tester lipstick onto a piece of white paper (we do this for photo shoots all the time to find the right color, because on film, those undertones can look off), and look, what color do you see besides? It's easier to see on white paper, harder to see on skin tone until it's too late. What are you looking for? For theory's sake, let's take your favorite brown toned lipstick. Your basic lipstick undertones that you might see would be:

    * Red - pink
          o Makes the color seem warmer, but harder and deeper as well. Can also bring out all the red tones in your skin as well so be careful!
    * Yellow - orange
          o Makes the color warmer, and softer. Looks great on warm skin tones, but if you're really pale, can bring out the green/blue undertones in your skin. To be on the safe side, go towards the yellow side, rather than the range. Too much orange can make skin look gray and sluggish.
    * Green - blue
          o A way to make a lipstick more dramatic - deeper. Try to stay clear of these if possible, they can make you look like you're STILL standing under fluorescent lighting.

Lips are undoubtedly the most sensuous aspect of the face. And while, nearly every other woman uses a lipstick to enhance the beauty of her lips, most of the women still don’t realize that giving your lips the right shape with makeup is the most important part of lip makeup.

If you don’t know how to shape up your lips using lip makeup, all your efforts on doing up your lips are a complete waste. Here are some tips to help you in defining your lips for a more appealing shape.

If you have thin lips

Obviously, you want to make your lips look a little thicker, so use the lip liner a little outside your natural lip line. You need to be particular about using the lip liner with a steady hand, to create a perfect shape. When you are done with that, just fill in the primer followed by the lipstick. For thin lips, it’s always good to use a bit of lip gloss over your lipstick, as lip gloss makes your lips look fuller.

If you have thick lips

Use a pencil lip liner which is at least one shade darker, than the lipstick shade you choose to wear, to draw a lip line a little inside your natural lip line. Fill in the lipstick, preferably one in matte texture.  As for shades always go in for medium and natural lipstick shades, while completely avoiding dark plums, browns and electric and shimmer shades.

If your lips are shapeless

In shapeless lips the major problem is that the bow area isn’t well defined, so that’s where you need to focus. To make a more prominent bow, make a V with a lip liner, and just extend the arms of the V a bit above your natural lip line. From the ends of the V draw curved lines to the corners of your mouth. And instead of applying the lipstick directly to your lips, use a lip brush to fill in the color inside the lip line that you have created.
